Contract Value
Core worked with our client, Joss Constructions, to deliver the refurbishment and extension of Merimbula Airport Terminal. Core was engaged to complete the electrical, communications and security components of the project. The overall project involved the setup of a temporary terminal (relocation of services), an upgrade to the incoming electrical supply, provision of main switchboard and distribution boards, general light and power, c-bus lighting control system, CAT6 communications cabling, expansion of VHF services, access control and CCTV. This project also involved the installation of pits and underground conduits for future expansion.
Challenges
The biggest challenge faced on this project was that for the duration of the project the airport remained fully functioning. All electrical works had to be carefully planned and timed to ensure nothing interfered with the day-to-day operations of the airport. With the airport fully functioning, it also meant there was limited space on site for works to be completed as well as the storage of materials and as a result, coordination of deliveries had to be carefully timed. On top of this, additional local businesses run out of the airport, which meant additional consideration and planning when scheduling power outages.
Solutions
All works were carefully scheduled to accommodate the day-to day running of the airport as well as other local businesses. On one particular Saturday after the last flight out of the airport had taken off the Core team worked throughout the day to complete works to ensure no disruption to flight schedules. Teamwork and effective planning, allowed for the works to be completed without disrupting any usual operations of the airport.
